Disconnect to Reconnect
What if thousands of diverse people joined together for a day to genuinely learn about and serve each other? What if on that same day, during those same hours, these 1000s of diverse people paused away from their digital devices and focused on positive human face-to-face interaction? Could we make the world a better place?
LOCALIZED ACTIONS, GLOBAL CONNECTIONS
Sparking widespread viral and word-of-mouth participation, with measurable engagement across social channels, thousands joined the Campaign Kindness challenge. Together, they created a powerful ripple effect as people from diverse backgrounds shared their experiences of reaching out, connecting with new individuals, and rethinking how they view and engage with others. Campaign Kindness proved that small, consistent actions have the power to bring people together across social and cultural lines, inspiring a movement toward a world built on deeper empathy, shared purpose, and real connection.

Technology has provided us powerful tools and platforms that have enabled people to connect and communicate as never before. But these same tools that have enriched our lives have also coarsened our lives.
Cyber-bullying, the distribution of “fake news”, trolling, and general incivility have infected so many of our online interactions. We have seen our privacy and productivity eroded. Our technology has led to accidents and tragedy.
We need to promote a healthier relationship with our tech devices and create more civil social interaction with each other.
We need a nationally recognized day to break the connection with our digital devices and make the connection with the people, families, and communities that surround us.
Here’s why:
Several recent studies have shown that excessive social media use can make it difficult to foster meaningful relationships offline. The average American spends almost 11 hours each day attached to some screen or device. We’re so focused on what’s happening online (and giving strangers access to our lives) that we’re distracted from who is around us. We need to get serious about tackling this imbalance in our lives.
A simple yet powerful way to raise awareness for this issue is to designate one Saturday each year as a national “Disconnect to Reconnect” day. On this day, people across the country would voluntarily set aside their digital devices to engage with family, friends, and neighbors within their own communities.
If you agree that we could all benefit from a digital time-out—a break from social media to be more present with our families and communities—please sign and share this petition.
Together, we can build a more connected nation—one person, one neighborhood, and one community at a time.
